Department Overview
The Central Coverage Design Team (CCDT) consists of subject matter experts who perform RF propagation studies on both small and complex two-way radio communication system designs. Our customers are primarily state and local public safety agencies but also include critical infrastructure companies. The services provided by CCDT include radio system site selection, voice and data coverage analysis, traffic loading analysis, frequency reuse planning, intermodulation(IM), receiver de-sense analysis, and frequency spectrum mining.
Job Description
This role is a hybrid position with 1 to 2 days per week in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
A CCDT engineer is responsible for performing propagation studies for internal stakeholders as well as providing guidance based on those results. This includes selecting the parameters and modeling coverage of the system based on system coverage requirements. Some of the daily activities performed by a CCDT RF Engineer are:
- Understanding Customer Requirements
- Performing Radio Coverage Propagation Analysis
- Voice and Data Capacity Analysis
- RF Link Budget Calculations
- Participate in Design Reviews
- Perform Frequency Licensing Studies
- Contributing to Standard Practices
- Use of ArcGIS tools
- Scripting languages such as Python, Google Apps Script are helpful but not required

- Good general knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals for voice/data architectures (e.g. APCO P25, LTE) is highly desirable.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar technical discipline
- OR 2+ years of engineering or technical experience
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
