The Entry-level Trim Engineer is a developmental opportunity for a recent engineering graduate. An engineering degree is required for this role.
Responsibilities
Responsible for design and develop of Trim cover product for car seats utilizing best business practice, approach and resolve technical issues as required by direct manager in assigned area of design responsibility, provide resolution to customer concerns developing and providing any support data required, actively support to SDT group and escalation process as needed, understand and follow tactical plan developed for the programs, deliver results in manner of time and quality as requested to ensure time and cost objectives are met.
Specific Functions—Technical Responsibilities
- The Trim Engineer applies best practices in creating layout drawings, detail drawings and assembly drawings. Uses customer’s environment drawings to ensure no packaging or interference problems exist in the drawings/data.
- Applies best practices in design and engineering. This can include but is not limited to Drawing standards, stack up, root cause analysis utilizing a tool to support (A3 / 8Ds /5 why´s /etc), DFMEA, DFAM hand calculations and use of carry-over.
- Executes robust design/design changes to provide the highest quality in the build and assembly of prototype parts with agreed to process. Ensures design data is released on-time to support highest quality assemblies for testing and the customer.
- The Trim Engineer supports root cause analysis in the resolution of test failures. Informs lead engineer or engineering manager of any potential safety concern.
- Provides test specifications and reviews set up for product testing in assigned area of design responsibility.
- Supports generation of DFMEAs prior to release of prototype tooling.
- Develops technical solutions that support business objectives (cost, performance, timing, weight, and investment).
- Technically supports suppliers in product development and drawing creation.
- Performs design studies or tolerance stack-ups to ensure highest quality product assembly and performance.
- Executes best practices and early detection for potential quality appearance issues.
- Uses the right tool/technology for providing technical solution to program/product issues.
- Is aware of advancing technology and implements as appropriate.
- Support production plant locations during the development stage of the program guiding and providing technical support as needed to ensure proper product execution .
Specific Functions—Administrative Responsibilities
- Writes CRs, IRs or DAs to properly document customer or Adient initiated changes or issues.
- Provides input to support personnel to ensure accurate input of design change records and drawings.
- Provides marked up drawings or CAD models through designers to facilitate accurate costing and quoting exercises.
- Maintains accurate bill of materials through product data management system and support personnel.
