Job Description
This Joint Use Engineer Tech/Design position will collaborate with project teams to create high-quality designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including pole loading, stress analysis, and clearance-based design. While implementing various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a team, the candidate will work with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
Responsibilities
- Using pole loading and clearance design software for client projects after being trained.
- Work with Engineers to implement design changes into the system.
- Plan and drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
- Execute a variety of electrical design assignments using the client’s distribution standard drawings and comply with NESC procedures.
- Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
- Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects.
- Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
- Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
- Work with leaders and team members to facilitate/support internal change efforts to increase organizational effectiveness.
- Assist with the set-up of projects in applicable project management systems.
- Assisting with developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and project scheduling and managing each deliverable will be required.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining project files and client deliverables and project communications.
- Responsible for accurate data entry on projects.
- Above all, a tenacious work ethic is a necessity.

Job Requirements
Desired Skills:
- Understanding of design software such as O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, or other stress-analysis software to develop the design deliverables, is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams
- Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers, and other Designers in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
- Knowledge of design, calculations, and design systems.
- Knowledge of the theory and practices of assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline.
- Capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to working within a highly collaborative team.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Engineer-Tech/Designer I
- Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America.
- High School Graduate or GED, required.
- College degree or some college course, preferred.
- Entry-Level Position; 0-2 years of utility design experience.
- Willingness to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
- Perform routine tasks independently (electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, and site design)
Engineer-Tech/Designer II
- Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America.
- College degree or some college course, preferred.
- Mid-Level Position; 3-6 years of utility design experience.
- Fulfill requirements of an Engineer-Tech I.
- Basic understanding of design/ drafting software.
- Coordinate and organize revisions of project drawings, plot files, and drawings for production work.
- Analyze complex engineering tasks, specifications, and inspections.
Engineer-Tech/Designer III
- Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America.
- College degree or some college course, preferred.
- Advanced-Level position; 7+ years of utility design experience.
- Fulfill requirements of an Engineer-Tech I-II.
- Advanced understanding of design/drafting software.
- Lead teams on various project types with advanced knowledge in the theory and practices of design, calculations, and project management.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged sitting and standing required.
- Occasional need to lift, pull, carry and push items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner at all times.
- Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and Company needs.
